A few things that inspired this:

Dorian Gray - immortal and unaging man; while he remained perfect, his portrait deteriorated; if he ever looked at the painting, he would waste away, while the painting took back his health

Beauty and the Beast - Who could forget the torn portrait of the beast in the West Wing? He wanted to forget what he was because he thought he'd never be seen like that again.

So... I guess this image would show both sides of Barnabas and how time affected him - both physically and mentally.

I used a picture from Sleepy Hollow when trying to figure out the pose. :)

Such an enchanting image of Barnabas. I see in the rips and tears images of bats, flying and swooping. The colors in his face are, indeed, the colors of youth and good health. The barely hinted at leaves in the background suggest the progression of time; all that he knew or loved is at a distance for him. Even the aged linen of his cravat speaks to that softer, lovelier time of his innocent past. The electric blue flourishes to hair and cape provide a liveliness, reminding us that Barnabas once stood in the daylight and seeks to do so, again. This painting is poetical and not easily forgotten.

I love this concept I like how he changed alot from his living self to his undead self (skin, hair turned to points stuff like that) plus I feel theres a bit of the beauty and the beast feel to Dark Shadows (cursed prince long lost princess) that you captured spot on. brovo

I like how you made a basic portrait more interesting. I mean, the picture itself is good, but the tears add a bit of pizzazz. They give the picture a deeper meaning.
